What is a Clear GIF?
Last Updated: March 11, 2020
A clear GIF is a small, literally invisible file on a website that can track a user's journey on the website. It can be used in a similar way to a cookie on a website. A GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is a picture file that is used on the internet. It can be a more convenient and flexible choice than a JPEG or PNG format image.
Due to a GIF's small file size, it can be added to a website without slowing it down or increasing load times. The clear GIF is used as a web beacon. Small and literally invisible, they can be present without the user knowing it's there.
