What is Opt-Out Consent?

Last Updated: September 30, 2020

Opt-Out Consent is a consent model used by CCPA and LGPD that doesn’t require the user to actively consent before setting cookies, however, it must give the user the ability to make the choice to opt-in or opt-out of cookies. Typically, the cookie banner will display a box that is checked and prompts the user to uncheck the box if they don’t want their personal information shared. If a user doesn’t decline giving consent, consent is considered as obtained.

A major way to comply with cookie laws and privacy regulations globally is to implement cookie consent models to ensure users have the choice to opt-in or out of the collection of their personal data.  Businesses like using this cookie consent model because it requires the user to read and take action, so they’re less likely to opt-out of the sale of their information.
