What is the Spanish AEPD?

Last Updated: November 23, 2020

The Spanish Data Protection Agency, otherwise known as the Spanish AEPD, is an independent Spanish administration that regulates data privacy and ensures it is applied to the collection, storage, and use of personal data.

They aim to make sure that Spanish citizens are informed of their rights as well as the possibilities the agency offers them. They also ensure that an agile instrument is readily available to facilitate compliance.

The AEPD recently began enforcing two new guidelines via the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) stating that cookie walls are no longer permitted as they do not offer a valid alternative to consent, and continued browsing without interacting with a cookie consent banner does not constitute valid consent.
