Google Play Data Safety: What it Means for Your Android Apps
Google Play has now officially launched its data transparency requirements for Android applications.
Google requires app owners to follow guidelines by July 20th. Requirements include properly disclosing the data their app collects, if and how it’s shared with third parties, the app’s security practices, and more.
Similar to Apple’s “nutrition labels,” the new area of the Play Store will show users the types of data an Android app is accessing and whether or not it is sharing it with third parties. The critical differences in Google’s new requirements centered around a greater focus on data handling and trust, while giving developers the ability to show they are following best practices in data security.
